This box is beautiful but can easily break. The Material is very fragile, and thin. I was amazed how the box came in good condition and the glass did not brake during the delivery. Was very well packed.I bought this to display an antique pistol. It's not valuable or functional, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it, but I still thought it would make a nice decoration This box is the perfect size and the price is extremely reasonable.I'll start by saying the dimensions given in the description are not very accurate. I measured to the nearest 1/16" and this is what I got:Exterior Dimensions: 15" L x 8 1/4" W x 2 3/4" DInterior Dimensions: 14 7/16" L x 7 3/4" W x 2 1/4" DNote that the 2 1/4 interior depth I measured is from the back panel to the glass. The 1 1/2" depth in the description includes only the depth from the back panel to the edge where the top and bottom meet, it does not include the additional space in the top half which is perfectly usable unless you're filling the box with something that will spill out when you open the top.Pros:- Made of 100% wood. This surprised me. Most shadow boxes have a back made of some kind of carboard, and there are a lot that have the sides made of veneered particle board, too. The back on this box is a thin plywood and the rest appears to be solid wood.- Box joint construction. All 4 sides of the bottom and the top are held together with box joints.- The wood is stained, not painted, and the stain color is quite good. I ordered the color that is just called "brown" but I would describe it as a medium Walnut color.- Comes with a latch instead of a magnet to hold the door closed.Cons:- Wood is very soft and lightweight. I can attest that it scratches easily and will certainly break easily. It's not going to hold up well if it's handled a lot.- The staining process is not thorough. The stain didn't get into the corners, so there are very light lines about 1/16" wide where the sides meet the back and the sides meet each other. The wood strips that hold the glass in place are not stained at all and those bare strips are easily seen looking through the glass from a 20-degree angle. The surface where the top and bottom meet is not stained. You can't see it when the case is closed, but it looks unfinished when the case is open. You can actually see all of these things in the photos included in the description, although they are more pronounced in person.- The latch isn't installed straight. The latch is still perfectly functional, but it definitely looks crooked.Even with it's faults, this case gets a solid 5-star rating for value.Got this for my girlfriend and I to sand and stain and it was amazing when all done and she loves it!For an inexpensive display box they are a good balance of cheap for value. Put foam in the bottom and nice fabric on top. I also stain them darker to make the case look richer and darker.Nice care su for then.It can be hard to find displays like this acceptable to a teen boy, but this one does a good job. Works nicely for small to medium size rock specimens and other things of similar sizeOverall these wooden hinged boxes with glassed top and latch are great for shadow boxes. I have been looking for awhile now for a wooden case to use as a shadow box. I have ordered several so far. I'm preparing shadow boxes for nieces and nephews with photos and other items in remembrance of my brother that past away in 2019. They are really coming out nice. Very pleased with this item.I got it for my daughter for her crystalsGreat looking box that we're using for our child's keepsakes. No damages during shipping.
